Pinus radiata is originally a native species from California and was introduced to New Zealand in the 1860's as part of a reforestation programme and are fully grown within 20 - 30 years.
It is one of the worlds most versatile softwoods. It has a medium density with light colour uniform texture and relatively straight grain. This durable tree is a fast growing light coloured softwood with a moderately even texture. It can also be stained to resemble a wide range of traditional timber species whilst maintaining a high standard of finish.
