Large Rimu Takahe Urns
Takahe - The flightless bird
This Takahe cremation urn is handcrafted from the ever changing Rimu tree.
Timber from Rimu Trees has been the main native timber in use since about 1910 when it began to displace Kauri. The quantities available however will fall rapidly in the next one or two decades as resources become exhausted. The timber of the rimu is comparatively hard and dense and can change in colour in a very small space of time from golden honey colour to dark brown.
Rimu grows to a height of about 100 feet and occasionally 150 feet. The trunk is usually about 3 feet in diameter but can be as much as 6 - 7 feet. Large trees can last for up to 1000 years. Rimu is the most widespread of all New Zealand forest trees.
The nameplate provided can be stuck on the top of the urn or on the side.
